Object of affection

At lunch the other day, a coworker was telling me about this documentary she saw about people who fall in love with inanimate objects. The one case was a woman who was in love with the Eiffel Tower and the other woman was in love with a bridge.

I had heard of objectophilia / objectum-sexuality but not specifically of cases where the object object of affection was a structure. I wonder if that is a common target for women with this condition. Is the (perceived) stability and permanence of architecture the source of attraction?

Openning doors

The first physical encounter with a building. The door knob. A handshake with architecture.

I knew a door once that had one of those card swipe passes for after hour use. After many frustrated nights of forgetting my card or not wanting to dig through my bag to locate it, I discovered that rattling the door a specific way would release the lock.

It was our secret handshake.
